The AeroPress is the most versatile brewer ever designed — equally at home on a camping trip, a hotel nightstand, or a well-equipped kitchen counter. It uses a thin paper filter and gentle pressure to produce a concentrated, clean cup. Not technically espresso, but the closest and most satisfying alternative for those without a machine. Best for single cups, nearly impossible to break.
What You Need
- AeroPress with paper filters
- Gooseneck kettle
- Burr grinder
- Digital scale
- Sturdy mug
- Timer
Step by Step
Rinse the Filter
Place a paper filter in the cap and rinse with hot water. Attach the cap to the brew chamber.
Position on Mug
Set the AeroPress on a sturdy, stable mug on your scale.
Grind and Add Coffee
Weigh 16g and grind medium-fine. Use the funnel to add to the chamber without spilling on the walls.
Bloom Pour — 35g
Start timer. Pour 35g water and immediately stir to saturate all grounds. Let bloom for 30 seconds.
Fill to 250g
Add 215g more water. Stir back and forth for 10 seconds.
Insert Plunger Slightly
Place the plunger ¼” into the chamber to create a seal. Let brew for 2–4 minutes total.
Plunge Slowly
Press down gently and steadily — take at least 30 seconds for the full plunge. Too much resistance means grind finer.
Pro Tips
- Shorter steep = brighter cup. Longer steep = sweeter, heavier cup.
- Paper filters give a cleaner cup; metal filters add more body and oils.
- The AeroPress rewards experimentation — change one variable at a time.
- Perfect for travel — it is nearly indestructible and weighs almost nothing.
The right coffee makes every method taste better.
